Khuong began his studies at the University of California San Diego in 1988 after graduating from high school. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology degree in 1993. For dentistry school, he attended USC, the University of Southern California. He received his bachelor's degree in 1997 and promptly began an extra year of Advanced Education in General Dentistry at the University of California, Los Angeles, or UCLA.

After completing his undergraduate studies in 1997, he promptly enrolled in the University of California, Los Angeles' Advanced Education in General Dentistry program. After finishing this section of his schooling, Dr. Khuong Nguyen entered the field but immediately realized that his actual love was pediatric dentistry rather than general dentistry.

He enrolled in a two-year pediatric dental residency at Lutheran Medical Center, a teaching affiliate of the New York Health Science Center in Brooklyn, New York, to assist him to get into the sector he wanted. During his first year of residency, he achieved a significant goal. A research awards competition recognized his work as the "Best Project in Pediatric Dentistry." This confirmed Dr. Nguyen's calling to pediatric dentistry and his ability to do great things in this discipline.
